Day of Infamy -
A Day of Infamy means a day that will be remembered for a shameful or outrageous act. On December 8, 1941, Franklin D. Roosevelt presented a speech declaring war on Japan. The day before, December 7, Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, a military naval base located in Hawaii. 2,000 Americans were killed with hundreds more injured. 20 American navy vessels and 300 planes were destroyed within two hours.The USS Arizona was a giant battleship that was sunk during the battle, accounting for at least 1,000 deaths. There is a memorial built on top of the sunken ship today. This day led to America joining WWII alongside the Allies, who were Britain, France, Soviet Union, and China. December 7, 1941 will always be remembered as a Day of Infamy.
